Bringing “The Last Ship” Home

May 04, 2015

On April 24 & 25, Sting performed songs from “The Last Ship” in three sold-out benefit concerts at the Sage Gateshead in Newcastle. On behalf of the Sage’s 10th Birthday Appeal, the shows were also a homecoming of sorts for material that Sting has said was deeply inspired by his hometown of Wallsend.

In this video filmed exclusively for Sting.com, he reflects on the community he was raised in and shares the many ways in which the North East and “The Last Ship” are deeply intertwined.

We came there all the way from Israel
Great city, absolutely AMAZING concert. I hope this could be released on CD somehow. It was better to see this concert in Newcastle, the place of the last ship, and to walk at the river the songs talk about

Thanks Sting for a special weekend in Ne
As longtime fan I would like to thank Sting for the special weekend I had in Newcastle on 24 and 25 of April, for the extraordinary opportunity to listen his music live in his home place. Before coming , Newcastle was a place of my soul, a place where my imagination flew away listening Soul Cages first and The Last ship, later.I loved the sparkling atmosphere and the pride of the city and its people, to discover the BIG RIVER and the deep tradition of the music there. It has been fantastic to spend two days of celebrating Sting in his past and future together with fans coming from all over the world. The concerts were absolutely great, the venue of the SAGE amazing and Sting was so generous to leave a lot of space to local musicians on the stage. Above all the magic moments were listening again The Last Ship live, a masterpiece of music and creativity, still ready to sail from its home place to the other places where its music and lyrics belongs.
